And answer the following, incorporating a quote or direct reference in each answer:
1. What major people, places, concepts, events or things would have influenced the lives of the people in your story? How or why?
Movements like the Pullman Strike, because they worked in a steel factory so strikes like this effected production and transportation of the products.
World War 1 because they were treated differently in America because they were German
Industrialization in America because thats what brought them over from Germany.
2. How might the people in your story have acted differently if they had more information about their setting? What information would have changed their personal history?
They probably wouldn't act to differently because they just wanted a good job to support their family, and thats what they did.

Ampersand: Internships is coming!
As you write your article, what is your engine? What do shorts have to do with this guys internship.
What are the key questions that you are answering for your readers? Why I wanted to wear shorts, How I got used to wearing long pants, what shorts and long pants had to do with my internship.
What are the key questions that you are answering for yourself as you write?
How I really felt about internship
If this were a more "standardized" writing assignment, what would the prompt be?
What did you learn during internship

Post your ideas for your first Literary Graffiti quote. Include the following, at a minimum:
* The quote: "Do you ever think of yourself as actually dead lying in a box with a lid on it?...I mean one thinks of it like being alive in a box, one keeps forgetting to take into account the fact that one is dead... it isn't a pleasant thought I asked you straight off-I'm going to stuff you in this box now, would you rather be alive or dead? Naturally, you'd prefer to be alive. Life in a box is better than no life at all. I expect. You could lie there thinking-well at least I'm not dead!"
* The source: Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead
* The original context: "Rosencrant and Guildenstern are wandering around the castle after talking with the player, and before talking to Gertrude about what happened when they talked to Hamlet.
* Your artistic vision, ideas, plans: write the quote so it makes an outline of a coffin, a coffin stencil with the words in the middle, or a coffin with a word bubble coming out saying the quote.

You are participating in an online forum to discuss Gatsby.
What makes a great forum post? What makes a great conversation online?
It answers the question that is asked thoroughly, but leaves it open for further analysis and interpretation by other people. It also gives insight to how you reached this conclusion, and why you think that.
What have you contributed to the forums that leads to a positive, productive, helpful way to understand and enjoy the book?
I have added my perspective to answer some of the questions that other students have asked.
What can you do to improve your posts as you go?
I could make my posts longer, and give more quotes and connections to the book.

Chapter 1
"'Well it's a fine book, and everybody ought to read it. The idea is if we don't look out the white race will be-will be utterly submerged. It's all scientific stuff: it's been proved". This connects to Racial segregation, Immigration to the US in the 1900-1920 and The Harlem Renaissance. It links to racial segregation because Tom wants the races to be segregated because he feels that his race is losing power. It also links to Immigration to the US in the 1900-1920's because that was when thousands of immigrants from other country's were coming to America through Eilis island in New York so it could be effecting Tom more because of his living in New York. The Harlem Renaissance links to this because Harlem is in New York and Tom might feel that his state is being taken over.

Chapter 2
"My Dear" she cried, "I'm going to give you this dress as soon as I'm through with it. I've got to get another one tomorrow. I'm going to make a list of all the things I've got to get. A massage and a wave, and a collar for the dog, and one of those cute little ash-trays where you touch a spring, and a wreath with a black silk bow for mother's grave that'll last all summer. I got to write down a list so I won't forget all the things I got to do." This Links to Materialism because Mrs. Wilson is obviously with Tom because of his money and wants to make sure that she remembers to buy all these things in case Tom leaves her.
