You are participating in an online forum to discuss Gatsby.
What makes a great forum post? What makes a great conversation online?
It answers the question that is asked thoroughly, but leaves it open for further analysis and interpretation by other people. It also gives insight to how you reached this conclusion, and why you think that.
What have you contributed to the forums that leads to a positive, productive, helpful way to understand and enjoy the book?
I have added my perspective to answer some of the questions that other students have asked.
What can you do to improve your posts as you go?
I could make my posts longer, and give more quotes and connections to the book.

Chapter 1
"'Well it's a fine book, and everybody ought to read it. The idea is if we don't look out the white race will be-will be utterly submerged. It's all scientific stuff: it's been proved". This connects to Racial segregation, Immigration to the US in the 1900-1920 and The Harlem Renaissance. It links to racial segregation because Tom wants the races to be segregated because he feels that his race is losing power. It also links to Immigration to the US in the 1900-1920's because that was when thousands of immigrants from other country's were coming to America through Eilis island in New York so it could be effecting Tom more because of his living in New York. The Harlem Renaissance links to this because Harlem is in New York and Tom might feel that his state is being taken over.

Chapter 2
"My Dear" she cried, "I'm going to give you this dress as soon as I'm through with it. I've got to get another one tomorrow. I'm going to make a list of all the things I've got to get. A massage and a wave, and a collar for the dog, and one of those cute little ash-trays where you touch a spring, and a wreath with a black silk bow for mother's grave that'll last all summer. I got to write down a list so I won't forget all the things I got to do." This Links to Materialism because Mrs. Wilson is obviously with Tom because of his money and wants to make sure that she remembers to buy all these things in case Tom leaves her.

What stands out to you most in your first experience with The Great Gatsby?
It's a little boring and hard to understand because of the long descriptions of the setting and some of the words he uses to describe it.

Post an image of your finished newspaper.
In the course of the Industrialization Newspaper mini-project, what stands out most to you?
That important information about historic events can be burried based on bias's of reporters and newspapers.
What stands out about the work of one specific other newspaper that you saw in class?
In the New York daily I like how all of the people in the group covered different aspects of the same general theme.
How does this affect the way that you see news or information around you?
I'll probably start paying more attention to the news.
What new thoughts do you have about the subject matter (i.e., the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire, the Pullman Strikes, etc.) covered by your newspaper or the others in class?
That the problems that were happening in the late 1800's and early 1900's are very similar than some of the problems that we're having in present day in the economy.
What new thoughts do you have about the way that you work through specific assignments, projects, etc.?
That in writing assignments it's better to have to long of a paper than to short of a paper.
